Description:

East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty to Republic Period, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A gorgeous ceremonial axe head, string cut and drilled from a piece of serpentine boasting mottled natural hues of honey, butterscotch, and apricot. The rectangular head presents a flattened butt that gently expands to a thin, curved blade. A sizeable annular drill hole perforates the area near the butt, allowing the piece to be attached to a handle. Size: 3.8" L x 1.3" W (9.7 cm x 3.3 cm)

Provenance: private New Jersey, USA collection; ex-Arts du Monde, imported into the US prior to 2000
