Description:

East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A beautiful nephrite jade ceremonial axe head string-cut into a trapezoidal form and boasting mottled hues of peach, cream, and tea rose with gray and taupe inclusions. The axe features a long, sharpened blade that tapers in length but broadens in thickness to the slightly-slanted butt. A pair of annular drill holes perforate the butt, allowing the piece to be strapped to a handle for wielding. Size: 3.7" L x 1.7" W (9.4 cm x 4.3 cm)

Provenance: private New Jersey, USA collection; ex-Arts du Monde, imported into the US prior to 2000
