Description:

East Asia, China, late Qing Dynasty to mid Republic Period, ca. 19th to 20th century CE. An interesting carving of bamboo stalks made from a light greenstone. The bundle consists of 14 shoots that taper upward and are bound together with two carved rings. The base is carved with shallow cavities to indicate the hollow nature of bamboo. The surface is polished, and the greenstone is light green near the tip but darkens beautifully towards the base. Size: 7.5" L x 1.5" W (19 cm x 3.8 cm)
