Description:

East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A charming, glazed terracotta sage boasting lustrous hues and a lifelike countenance. He stands with his head tilted gently downward, as if in contemplation, as he holds a large hat slung over his shoulder. Belted at the waist, his robes display a rich shade of burgundy with lengthy violet cuffs. His aged visage features a furrowed brow, beady eyes, a bulbous nose, a smiling mouth, and a lengthy beard and moustache, all crowned by a tonsured coiffure and a petite hat.
