Description:

East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A fantastic steel sword with a wooden sheath and brass components. The blade is slightly curved with a single cutting edge. An ovoid guard with a downward pointed rim protects the wooden grip, and a steel pommel caps the end of the hilt. The sheath is made from painted black wood, with a brass chape and rings that attach a short cord for suspension. Weapons from this time frame, like this sword, were likely used during the Boxer Rebellion. A fascinating piece of history! Size of blade: 24.5" L x 1.25" W (62.2 cm x 3.2 cm); in sheath: 31.25" L x 3.25" W (79.4 cm x 8.3 cm)
