East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A pair of bat themed pieces: a blue-on-white porcelain dish and a charming vintage machine woven silk panel. The bowl has a square shop mark on the underside within a double circle in a blue underglaze, the outer rim contains 3 stylized bats, and the interior is decorated with an abstract vegetal motif, longevity symbol, and additional bats. Etched into the surface after firing and glazing are 2 unknown marks or symbols. The silk panel consists of 2 bats flitting over peonies and a scholar stone, the threads dyes in red, blue, and white with metallic golden accents. The creatures and objects are all symbols of good luck, wisdom, and fertility. Size of plate: 5.75" Diameter x 1.25" H (14.6 cm x 3.2 cm); cloth: 22" L x 17.5" W (55.9 cm x 44.4 cm)
