Description:

East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 19th to 20th century CE. A lovely cast-brass urn or vase with a colorful champleve enamel decoration across the exterior. The piece rests on a ring form foot, and the base is marked with a relief stamp in in a square with several Chinese characters. The rounded, carinated bottom section tapers inward and then up to a dramatically flared rim. The exterior surface has an amazing textural relief pattern of concentric hexagonal then interlocking linear patterns, and more hexagonal shapes above. The first register of cloisonne includes abstract mythical zoomorphic faces and creatures in red, green, blue, white, yellow. The upper two registers contain a repeating pattern of linear and bird like creatures and bas relief faces protrude from the sides between the upper cloisonne registers. Openwork lugs or spines jut from the rim, along the body, and lower midsection. Size: 10.5" W x 12" H (26.7 cm x 30.5 cm)
