East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 19th century CE. A hand-carved bamboo pot for depositing paint brushes that displays three gods which comprise the Sanxing ("Three Stars"). The cylindrical vessel has a deep opening on top, a flat base with a central recess, and five bands of impressed teardrop motifs on the back half. The front displays the Sanxing comprised of (from left to right) Shouxing (longevity), Luxing (status), and Fuxing (prosperity). Fine patina envelops the entire vessel. Size: 6.6" W x 9.375" H (16.8 cm x 23.8 cm)
