Mountainous Southeast Asia, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand or China, Miao Hill Tribe, ca. 19th century CE. A grand silver choker style necklace, the u-shaped neckpiece finely detailed with several registers of beautiful granulation and impressed stylized geometric motifs, three large diamond-shaped appliques set with inlaid glass of jewel-tone red, blue, and green hues (most inlays of a circular shape, but the central applique features a large triangular form, and the flanking appliques feature central blue glass inlays that are faceted), and a pair of round granulated appliques set with green glass near the eye hooks of the choker. Suspended from the choker are seventeen danglers, each one extending from a round granulated silver applique set with alternating inlays of green and red glass, linked to another one that features glass inlay of the complementary color, and finally ending with a trio of jingly chains that resolve in a pointed leaf-shaped silver terminus. A wonderful example set in a glass-fronted, blue velvet lined, wooden shadow box frame to be appreciated as a work of art. It could, however, be removed from the frame and taken to a jeweler to be fitted with a suspension chain for wearing. Size: 10.5" L x 9.5" W (26.7 cm x 24.1 cm)
