Asian Art. China, Qing Dynasty, ca. last quarter of the 19th century. A volume of 10 hand-painted erotic ink drawings on silk fabric which was pasted onto the heavy boards of this thick leporello of 24 panels in total (10 with pictorial). A leporello is a book bound in an accordion pleated style (sometimes known as a concertina fold), so that all images may be viewed as a continuous series in a horizontal format, with a cover wrapped in beautiful gold on black silk fabric. Each depiction of lovers pleasuring one another in various positions and environs was hand drawn with ink and hand colored in watercolor - some include gold leaf details - and all include red chops created via seals. The leporello format allows for a fluid and continuous narrative of a couple with an healthy sexual appetite that culminates in an orgiastic wild party. This said, the artist has managed to render all matter of unrestrained sexual subject matter in an artistic and tasteful manner. Size: closed - 12.25" L x 9.25" W (31.1 cm x 23.5 cm); when opened it measures in excess of 188" L (477.5 cm)

- Condition: Each painted silk image is in excellent condition. Some slight fading in areas, but overall quite vivid. Moderate wear and staining to boards and cover that do not disturb the imagery.
