Description:

**Originally Listed At $800**

East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A gorgeous nephrite jade axe known traditionally as a "yue," a type that dates to the Neolithic period, flaring gradually to a cutting edge with a hafting tab pierced at the top. Although blade shaped, this example is entirely ritualistic and highly polished and smooth. The stone is inherently beautiful, presenting with light mint green and mottled brown hues. Such jade axes were originally made for burial in elite tombs alongside other luxury items. Size: 5.75" L x 0.5" W x 7.75" H (14.6 cm x 1.3 cm x 19.7 cm)

Provenance: ex-Nancy and Dr. E.F. Simpson collection, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired from 1970 to 2000
