Description:

East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty to Republic Period, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A lovely hand-carved serpentine ritualistic bi disc and a nephrite jade sword sheath fitting. The bi disc form is styled after traditional funerary implement in Neolithic and early Dynastic China - this simple yet elegant version features a pair of concentric ridges in the center, gently rounded and polished on both sides. The scabbard fitting is perforated by a transverse slot for attachment to the sheath and cords, and the front surface is carved with shallow grooves and ridges. Size (bi disc): 4.5" Diameter x 0.2" W (11.4 cm x 0.5 cm)
