East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 19th to 20th century CE. A beautiful pottery vase of cylindrical form, skillfully hand-painted with the image of a bird amongst flowers in hues of green, pink, yellow, red, blue, and black atop a white ground. About 9 lines of vertical Chinese script describing the scene adorn the side of the vessel, while liberal remains of lustrous gilding embellish the rim. Traces of an indecipherable, red, stamped pottery mark are displayed on the base. Size: 4.7" Diameter x 10.8" H (11.9 cm x 27.4 cm)

Provenance: private Ventura County, California, USA collection, acquired from 1990 to 2000
