**First Time At Auction**

East Asia, China, late Qing Dynasty, ca. 19th century CE. Originally made to hold a prayer scroll in the opening in its back, this is a hand-carved wooden model of a mounted rider. The figure wears a black hat and tunic and sits with his with hands held out before him. The horse strides forward atop an integral plinth, and is painted red and white with ornate saddle clothes. Size: 7.7" L x 5.5" W x 14.8" H (19.6 cm x 14 cm x 37.6 cm)

  • Condition: Legs/feet repaired and reattached to plinth. The surface is weathered with some small fissures. The original prayer/dedication is lost from the back. Pigment has wear as shown though is still visible in many areas. Rich patina.
