Description:

Central Asia, probably Turkmenistan or surrounding regions, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A gorgeous belt of wearable form constructed from 112 petite panels as well as 2 end caps with 5 fused panels each, all formed from 87.6% silver. Each panel features dense stippling that creates a visually pleasing presentation. The flexible belt interior is formed from a slender strip of leather, and a pair of hooks beneath one end cap fit snugly within a pair of loops beneath the other end cap. Beneath each individual belt panel is a maker's mark reading either "M" or "MJ." Size: 28.25" L x 0.73" W (71.8 cm x 1.9 cm); silver quality: 87.6%; weight: 329.9 grams
