Southeast Asia, Burma, 19th century CE. A small wooden Buddha seated on a rounded-off pedestal. The pedestal is painted red. This Buddha is depicted in the Bhumisparsha mudra, with his right hand over the right knee reaching towards the ground and the palm inward and touching the lotus throne. His left hand lies in his lap with the palm upright. This mudra represents the moment of his awakening, as he defeated the demon Mara, and claimed the earth as his witness to his enlightenment. His robes and face are gilded. Size: 1.95" L x 2.55" W x 5.25" H (5 cm x 6.5 cm x 13.3 cm)
