Description:

Southeast Asia, Burma (Myanmar), ca. 19th century CE. A standing brass statue of the Buddha upon a pedestal with a lotus petal motif. The figure is cast separately from the rest of the base, the tenons on the underside of the feet inserted into the hollow pedestal. The robes fall to his ankles with naturalistic creases and folds in the drapery. He holds his hands in a mudra gesture, his serene visage with rounded cheeks, arched eyebrows, and elongated ears under a topknot coiffure studded with nodules that represent tight curls. Size: 6" L x 4" W x 15.5" H (15.2 cm x 10.2 cm x 39.4 cm)

  • Condition: Surface wear commensurate with age. Dark patina and toning. Casting imperfections, perforations to the underside of the robe hem. Softening to some details, but overall good condition. Mineral deposits and patina on interior of base.
