**First Time At Auction**

Western Europe, Great Britain, late Victorian period, ca. mid to late 19th century CE. A fine example of a British shako helmet from the 12th Royal Lancers division (known as the Prince of Wales' Own). The leather helmet features a low brim, a green-and-yellow sash and ball, and a mortar board top with ridged red cloth siding. A plume slot is situated just above the ball and holds a red-dyed horsehair plume, with brass lion chinstrap fittings on the sides of the helmet, and a broad brass frontal applique with a Victorian crown and names of several famous battles. The leather-backed chinstrap has dozens of brass chain links. A fine example from Victorian era England! Size: 9.625" W x 8.25" H (24.4 cm x 21 cm)

  • Condition: Chin strap damaged from previous repair, with light adhesive residue along leather strap. Slight bending to overall form of helmet and top cap, with fading to some cloth colors, and light fraying to some interior linings, otherwise intact and very good. Nice patina to brass elements.
