Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Eastern Europe, Balkans region, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A lovely bowl from a smoking pipe made of copper and inlaid with shimmering mother of pearl (nacre) shells! The upper receptacle has a copper lip and brass lid on a hinge made from coiled wires in a spire shape, topped by a finial disc. The nacre is cut into delicate geometric shapes and inlaid along the heel and foot of the bowl, and another copper rim for securing a stem. The copper rims are etched with foliate motifs - and the overall presentation is elaborate! Size: 3.5" L x 2" W x 5.5" H (8.9 cm x 5.1 cm x 14 cm)

For a nearly identical example, please see the Amsterdam Pipe Museum's website, museum number: APM 15.876.
