Description:

Western Asia, Azerbaijan, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A magnificent, large, flat-woven rug known as a kilim with repeated diamond and triangular motifs. The name Shirvan indicates the region in Azerbaijan where this rug was made. Red dominates the color scheme, with beige, navy blue, sky blue, and ocher yellow also present. Rugs of this style are made using the slit weaving technique, with slits where different colors meet and stepping used along those lines to strengthen the weave. The highly geometric patterns are meant to be in harmony with this weaving technique. Size: 59.5" W x 118" H (151.1 cm x 299.7 cm)
