Southeast Asia, likely Burma (Myanmar) ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A large wooden bowl with thick walls depicting a procession of villagers, the surface is covered in a dark and lustrous patina from age and use! The exterior is relief carved with a frieze style scene of figures walking, riding horseback, and pulled in carts. A charming village scene, perhaps a procession to the tall temple / pagoda shaped building depicted here, representing all members of society - old man with a cane- to the elite person in a cart under a parasol. Size: 14.5" Diameter x 8" H (36.8 cm x 20.3 cm)
