**First Time At Auction**

United States, Arizona, Fort Apache, ca. 1880s to 1900s CE. An awl case made from the tail hide of a bison, the hairy tail tip is part of the ornamentation! The surface is decorated with beading, dangling tin cones, and brass buttons. This would have been worn on a belt as a decorative and useful pouch for storing awls or other sewing / weaving tools. This purportedly came from Fort Apache, a military post established in 1870 and heavily used during the late 19th century Indian Wars and to a lesser extent until the 1920s. Size: 24" L x 2" W (61 cm x 5.1 cm)
