North America, United States, ca. 19th to mid-20th century CE. A collection of 3 wooden duck decoys with great signs of use. Each is painted with the dark and muted colors characteristic to most northeastern waterfowl - a female mallard, perhaps a merganser, and a black duck. The undersides of 2 contain loops for anchor lines and weights. Size of brown duck: 15" L x 5.5" W x 6" H (38.1 cm x 14 cm x 15.2 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Bishop Family Trust collection, the Trust of the late Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010

  • Condition: Losses to wood throughout and deep stable fissure on the white decoy. Flaking to paint when handled, fair condition. Black decoy is in good condition with minor surface wear and abrasions. Brown decoy head is reattached. Surface abrasions throughout and fading to paint.
