Description:

North America, USA, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A collection of twenty-two tintypes, all portraits, mostly of individuals, with a few groups. These portraits are of men and women, adults and children. Many are posed against painted backdrops. These provide a fascinating glimpse into clothing and hair styles of the past. Tintypes enjoyed their greatest popularity in the 1860s-1870s, but continued to be popular at events like carnivals and used by street photographers throughout the early 20th century. Relatively inexpensive, easy to take and develop, these early photographs likely represent a broad cross-section of people. Size: 2.6" W x 3.4" H (6.6 cm x 8.6 cm)
