Description:

North America, United States, ca. 19th century CE. An unusual tool that might function as a shoehorn made from iron and fittingly, cow horn. The horn weighs the handle in such a way that the most comfortable position to hold the spatulate is to grip the horn, fingers curled, and iron stem resting between index or middle finger. The flattened spoon spatulate end is not ideal for serving or eating, but rather for inserting inside of one's shoe to comfortably fit their heel inside. Size: 10.5" L x 6" W (26.7 cm x 15.2 cm)

Provenance: ex-Nancy and Dr. E.F. Simpson collection, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired from 1970 to 2000
