Native American, Alaska, Yupik people, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A skillfully carved whale bone hunting club with zoomorphic and anthropomorphic forms deeply incised along its length. Pearlescent shells form eyes on the central figure. This club reflects the Yupik tradition's philisophy of Animism, the belief that all living and non-living things contain a spirit. Size: 2.25" W x 11.45" H (5.7 cm x 29.1 cm); 12.9" H (32.8 cm) on included custom stand.
