Description:

Native American, found on St. Lawrence Island, Alaska, Yupik people, ca. 19th century CE. A gorgeous caribou bone fishing lure, carved in the shape of a fish with a diminutive tail and a pointed nose. The thickest part of the "fish" is pierced through from all four sides to attach a string. This was made to be moved back and forth through the water in order to attract larger fish. Size: 3.1" W x 0.6" H (7.9 cm x 1.5 cm); 2.6" H (6.6 cm) on included custom stand.
