Europe, Italy, Venice, found in western Africa, ca. early 19th century CE. Five lovely strands of Venetian glass beads that were once used as currency pieces in European trading operations and colonization of western Africa. Two strands of beads bear light blue grounds with red and dark blue stripes. Two additional strands have red-hued beads bearing vertical stripes in either blue or black hues. The last strand contains hundreds of Cornaline d'Aleppo (also known as White Heart or Hudson Bay) beads due to their off-white core. Beautiful additions to any ensemble! Size of largest (Cornaline d'Aleppo strand): 84.75" L (215.3 cm)

Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s and 1960s

  • Condition: All strands are strung in modern times and can be restrung into wearable jewelry pieces. Minor abrasions and small nicks to some beads, otherwise intact and very good. Great coloration throughout.
