Western Africa, Mali, Dogon people, ca. early 20th century CE. A gorgeous dark wood heirloom bowl, with a deep interior and a rounded shape. One side has a low profile handle just below the rim with carved triangles in its face. Bowls like this one were used for food preparation, and indeed the interior of this vessel attests to its use. The rich color of the wood is enhanced by its patina which developed over the ages. Size: 11.45" W x 6.6" H (29.1 cm x 16.8 cm)
