Description:

Western Europe, Bohemia or Venice and West Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Benin, or Mali, ca. 19th to mid-20th century CE. A collection of 3 necklaces strung in modern times from glass trade beads that originated in Europe and African bovine bone, jasper, and brass beads. The necklaces are wearable and the brass features heavily textured and incised surfaces that gives the illusion of being made from wrapped "bronze" wire, characteristic of West Africa. One necklace is comprised of red jasper disc beads with several brass spacers, yellow glass trade beads, and a brass ring and teardrop bell shaped pendant. The next is entirely brass bicones, spherical, and diamond-shapes with 2 bells along the strand, 3 rings, and central pendant bell. The third necklace has bone beads, brass bicones, and tubular glass trade beads in opaque gray with red and black stripes, a central brass bell with ring serves as the pendant. Strands are similar in lengths. Size (longest strand doubled): 32" L (81.3 cm); (teardrop bell): 1.75" L x 1" W (4.4 cm x 2.5 cm)
