East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 19th century CE. A fascinating painted wooden screen set into a low stand with openwork floral motifs. One side of the screen depicts a painting of three figures, one of them the emperor in brightly colored robes, holding a meeting. The other side has written characters covering most of its surface, some of which remain. Size: 18" W x 21" H (45.7 cm x 53.3 cm)

  • Condition: Paint on screen has excellent craquelure, with nice aged patina on wood surfaces. Back of panel has some remaining writing, but it is faded and not legible. Piece is in two parts, with the panel able to be lifted out of its stand.
