Liuboslav Hutsaliuk (Ukrainian-American, 1923-2003). Two untitled ink drawings, ca. 1970s. One signed in pencil at lower right. The other signed in ink at the lower right. A wonderful pair of drawings by one of the best known Ukrainian-American artists of the 20th century. One depicts the facade of an impressive edifice, and the other presents a church surrounded by the natural landscape. Liuboslav Hutsaliuk (whose first name was also spelled Lubomyr, Luboslau, Ljuboslav, or shortened to Lubo and surname also spelled Hucaljuk) is best known for his Post-Impressionist cityscapes, landscapes, and still lifes. Size of each with mattes: 13.875" W x 11" H (35.2 cm x 27.9 cm)

During the 1960s, Hutsaliuk became associated with the Soyuzivka, a Ukrainian American artistic center in New York City. In addition to being a masterful painter, Hutsaliiuk was also a caricaturist and cartoonist. His drawings were published in the satirical journal "Lys Mykyta". Furthermore, Hutsaliuk published art reviews in the newspaper "Svoboda" as well as the journal "Suchasnist". Hutsaliuk's works may be found internationally in collections in France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Canada, as well as the Palm Springs Desert Museum and Vermont Arts Center in United States. Provenance: ex-Damien and Oksana Lishchyssky, the ink drawings were a gift from the artist himself, Liuboslav Hutsaliuk, between 1950s and 1980s, as the Lishchysskys were close friends of Hutsaliuk - Drawings are accompanied by a notarized letter from Lada Lishchyssky attesting to this provenance.
