Native American, Southwestern United States, artist Della Takala (Hopi, Second Mesa), 1968. A hand-coiled basketry plaque exhibiting a polychrome image of the mythical Crow Mother (Angwusnasomtaqa) with her winged head, trapezoidal face and eyes, and broad gown bearing colorful lower fringe patterns. A trio of crows surround the deity on the lateral and top borders, and the entire exterior border is dyed with a rich black hue. A suspension loop on the verso enables the plaque to be suspended from a wall. Size: 1.75" L x 16.375" W x 16.9" H (4.4 cm x 41.6 cm x 42.9 cm)
