Description:

Adam Niemczyc (Polish, 1914-2009). "Couple" mixed media on paper, 1966. Signed and dated "A.N. '66" at lower center. An intriguing composition by early modern Polish artist Adam Niemczyc. Three figures are depicted. On the left is a half-length female who cocks her head slightly, holds a picture of a visage in her hands, and faces the viewer with a somber expression. On the right are a male and female, perhaps the couple referred to by the title of this piece, both depicted bust-length and in a similar abstract manner as the figure to the left. A special piece, set in a custom wood frame with a burlap embellished mat behind glass. Size: 18" L x 24" W (45.7 cm x 61 cm) Size of frame: 24.125" L x 29.5" W (61.3 cm x 74.9 cm)

Born in 1914, Adam Niemczyc was a Polish Postwar and Contemporary artist who studied at Jan Kazimierz University. During World War II, Niemczyc stayed in Budapest, studied art, and graduated from the Academy in Krakow in 1948. Following this, he earned a doctorate in art history at the Jagiellonian University. In addition to being a visual artist who engaged in painting, graphic art, mural painting, and book illustration, Niemczyc was also a poet and novelist. Niemczyc has been exhibiting since 1958 in Poland and has also had numerous solo exhibitions abroad such as Galerie Zak in Paris (1961), Cassel Gallery in London (1963), and Bodley Gallery in New York.
