Description:

Native American, Northwest Coast, ca. mid-20th century CE. A lovely wooden totem pole comprised of 3 watchers or watchmen seated atop the head of a beaver who holds an anthropomorphic head, all supported by a plinth in the form of a frog. The watchers at the top of the sculpture are lookouts in various directions seeking to warn and protect the village from enemies. The middle watcher faces the ocean to search for incoming canoes from other villages, and the other 2 look to the sides along the shoreline and keep watch over the village. Size: 2.3" W x 6.8" H (5.8 cm x 17.3 cm)
