Description:

Native American, Southwestern United States, Santo Domingo Pueblo, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A massive white shell pendant covered with turquoise and oyster shell inlays and strung on a coral bead double strand. The shell is attached via a wire to carved bone loop covered with turquoise, coral, green and black stone shards. The coral necklace is wearable and fastened by a knotted end which is characteristic of earlier Pueblo pieces. Size of strand: 27.5" L (69.8 cm); shell pendant: 4" L x 4.5" W (10.2 cm x 11.4 cm)

Provenance: private Alamo, California, USA collection, before 2000; ex-Hubel Trading Post, 1930s-40s
