South Asia, India / Burma border, Nagaland, Naga people, ca. 1950s CE. A handwoven bamboo and cane winnowing fan with a wedge shaped and slanted walls. Used for sifting dirt and separating chaff when preparing rice or other grains. The Nagas, a diverse ethnic group, are renowned for their expert craftsmanship in basketry weaving using bamboo and cane, however this ancient craft, passed down through generations, has declined with modern lifestyle changes and technology.
