Latin America, Mexico, ca. 1954 CE. A dramatic ex voto depicting a toreador's (bull fighter's) unfortunate encounter with a powerful, angry bull. The scene includes the victim being gored by the bull, his fellow toreadors attempting to lure the bull away from their friend, a woman dressed in a red and gold dress witnessing the events, and in the upper right corner, the victim appealing to the Virgin of San Juan. The text below translates, "The same day of Corpus Christi of the year 1954 I was gored by a brave bull that escaped from the corral of the ranch of Cabrera. Only thanks to the Virgin of San Juan, to the one that I commended myself, I was saved and because of that I dedicate this small painting to give her thanks and ask her to go on protecting also my "compadres" that tried to take away the big bull that was on top of me."
