Native American, Southwestern USA, Arizona, Hopi, ca. 1950s to 1960s CE. A vibrant cottonwood kachina figure of Corn Boy, carved by Victor Charlie with dyed turkey and chicken feathers. The paper tag from the 2nd Mesa Hopi Arts & Crafts organization is labeled with the kachina name and artist's name "Victor Charles." In Hopi tradition, Kachinas are spirit beings that embody elements of the natural world and serve as intermediaries between humans and the divine. Corn Boy represents the spirit of corn, a vital crop for the Hopi community, symbolizing sustenance, fertility, and the cycle of life, and this kachina assists in good harvests, rain, and the well-being of the people.   • Condition: Right ear is reattached with adhesive and has glue residue around the break line. Front of left foot is reattached with visible break line. Some fraying to feathers. Chips to pigment and scuffs throughout. Overall good condition with original Hopi Arts and Crafts 2nd Mesa tag still attached. Kachina is unsigned.
