First Nations, British Columbia, Vancouver Island, Namgis First Nation, Kwakwaka'wakw / Kwakiutl / Kwagiulth, ca. 1959 CE. A fabulous hand-carved, wooden totem pole depicting a thunderbird perched atop the head of a seated beaver who grasps a fish with his front paws. All is meticulously hand-painted in vibrant hues of scarlet, cobalt, burnt orange, marigold, viridian, caramel, white, and black, creating a mesmerizing composition. Label on underside of base reads "Fort Langley Museum / 1959 Canada BC / Kwakiutl / 1200-." Size: 6.7" W x 20.5" H (17 cm x 52.1 cm)
