Description:

Mexico, 1946 CE. A very charming and somewhat humorous ex-voto showing a young woman praying to San (Saint) Antonio to give her the man of her dreams. The text reads "I give thanks to San Antonio because he listened to my prayers. After praying a lot for an honest, warm man who would also be a hard worker and handsome, on June 17, 1946 a few days after Saint's Day Mr. Luis Moran asked my mother, Dona Josela Pina, for my hand in marriage." We all love the way the mother's looking suspiciously at the handsome Mr. Moran and how he sits far away from the two women. Great paint, great story! Custom framed. Size: 13-1/2" H x 7-7/8" W (34.3 cm x 20 cm). Frame size: 16-1/2" x 11" (42 cm x 28 cm).

Provenance: Ex- T. Jones collection acquired in Mexico around 1985.
