Description:

Europe, Switzerland, Sempach district, ca. 1940 CE. A hand-carved wooden walking cane with an iron tip that tapers to a point. The cane is decorated in relief with a serpent coiling in tandem with a leafy vine, and the handle takes the form of a mustachioed man with inlaid blue glass eyes. Inscribed along the cane are the words "1940 SOUVENIR DE SEMPACH SUISSE LE-9-8" as well as "LT" within a heart. Size: 1.4" W x 37.5" H (3.6 cm x 95.2 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Bishop Family Trust collection, the Trust of the late Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010
