Europe, late German Expressionist, mixed media, ca. 1940s to 1950s. A striking composition created in the German Expressionist style - clearly inspired by the pioneers such as Max Beckmann, Emil Nolde, and Max Pechstein. Delineated in watercolor, gouache, and charcoal on paper, the piece features three praying figures. A standing male and female with their eyes closed and hands pressed together in prayer, while the leftmost figure has fallen to his knees. Set in a custom matte and frame under glass. Size: 12.25" L x 9.375" W (31.1 cm x 23.8 cm); 19.625" L x 16.5" W (49.8 cm x 41.9 cm) including framing
