Latin America, Mexico, ca. 1939 CE. An ex-voto depicting a violent scene in which three men are attacking another with poison tipped arrows. The victim is laying on the ground in a pool of his own blood. Above and to the center is a woman praying on bended knee to San Juan de los Lagos (Our Lady of San Juan of the Lakes). The text below generally translates, "On October 29, 1939 in the Common Land of Anacuya Mefrio of Gral Cepada Coah, Francisco Vielma, Ramon Secundino, and Pedro Vasquez damaged with punals (poison tipped weapons) the hand of my son Margoirito Amaro, leaving him thrown in a puddle of blood, and we invoked the help of Our Lady of San Juan [de los Lagos (of the lakes)] and noticed that she made possible a miracle and as a testiment of thanks is the present retablo.
