Description:

United States, ca. 1937 CE. A Buffalo nickel of the most famous variety: "3 Legged Scratched," mint marked D, and professionally slabbed by ANACS (American Numismatic Association Certification Service). The coin is graded EF 40 (Extremely Fine), ANACS certification #: 2917014. The Three-Legged Buffalo Nickel is a result of a mistake during the minting process. In 1937, some dies at the Denver Mint were polished to remove die clash marks, which were caused by the dies striking each other without a planchet (blank coin) between them. Unfortunately, in the process of polishing the dies, the front leg of the buffalo on the reverse was inadvertently removed, creating the appearance of a three-legged buffalo. This distinctive error has become a highly sought-after variety by collectors! Size: 0.8" Diameter (2 cm)
