Native America, Pacific Northwest, Canada, British Columbia, First Nations, ca. 1936. A hand-carved potlatch pole dedicated to a chief. Hand-painted, the pole displays the traditional tower of zoomorphs seen in a totem with, from top to bottom, a snow owl, a frog, a raven over a raven chick, and a beaver holding a frog or fish. Size: 6.4" W x 15.8" H (16.3 cm x 40.1 cm)

Provenance: private Alamo, California, USA collection, before 2000; ex-Leon Lafortune estate, Vancouver, BC, Canada, 1940s
