Near East, Palestine / Israel, Jerusalem, ca. 1936 CE. A beautiful pair of matching sterling silver bowls engraved with a dedication on the base and arabesque motifs. The dedication reads "E.E.P. & E.H.P. / FROM / THE STAFF / JERUSALEM / 1936." These were presented to the American ambassador and his wife, Ely Eliot and Eno Ham Palmer. Palmer's period of appointment to the post was from 1933 to 1935. Note that these bowls were dedicated the year that the 1936-1939 Arab revolt in Palestine began - which was primarily sparked by British Colonial rule.
