Description:

Pacific Northwest, Alaska, ca. 1930s to 1940s. A finely carved red cedar totem pole signed "Jimmy Carlson" on the verso and featuring (from top to bottom): a bird (perhaps a raven or an eagle) with wings folded at the sides, a pronounced curved beak and upraised legs perched atop the head of another animal with a toothy grimace; a long beaked bird interestingly looking downward; a kneeling beaver atop another zoomorphic head with an endearing smile - all atop a rhomboid base carved with a delightful abstract visage. The details - from the avians' plumage and curved beaks to the beaver's furry coat and bucky teeth - are very impressive. Size: 24.5" H (62.2 cm)
