Description:

Native American, Western United States, California / Nevada, Pomo culture, ca. 1920s to 1930s CE. A hand-made basket decorated with feathers and shell beads, the body coiled and twined from regional plants - sedge grass, fern root, willow, and/or bracken. The quail topknot feathers are evenly spaced around the exterior with shell discs and glass seed beads sewn to the surface. The addition of this delicate ornamentation separates this beautiful piece from utilitarian examples, and such baskets were traditionally used in ceremonial contexts or given as special gifts. Size: 7.5" Diameter x 3" H (19 cm x 7.6 cm)
