Description:

East Asia, China, ca. early 20th century CE. A lovely cloisonne enamel bowl with a low, rounded body resting on a short copper ring foot. The exterior is covered in black leaded enamel, with delicate copper wires forming scrolling clouds and two outstretched dragons encircling the exterior, their heads reaching for the flaming pearl. Inside, a forward-facing dragon is depicted with the flaming pearl positioned below its open mouth. The base bears a four-character reign mark, the style is typical for pieces from about 1920-1930. The pearl symbolizes spiritual energy, wisdom, prosperity, power, immortality, thunder, and the moon. The depiction of two dragons in pursuit of this pearl represents a struggle for power, wisdom, and spiritual energy. Each dragon has five toes - an iconic Chinese motif that symbolizes the emperor, highlighting the imperial power and authority. This motif is skillfully crafted with exceptional precision and craftsmanship. Size: 8" Diameter x 2.75" H (20.3 cm x 7 cm)
